Santiago, Chile
Our stay in Santiago de Chile was short. We actually passed through Santiago three times; first while transiting from Patagonia to the Atacama Desert. During this overnight stay, we enjoyed traditional Chilean cuisine in Barrio Bellavista before heading back to our airport hotel and flying to the Atacama region the next morning. The second overnight was between Atacama and Easter Island. After Easter Island, we returned to the city with a plan to actually spend a couple of days exploring it. Unfortunately, a severe flight delay out of Easter Island significantly reduced our sightseeing time. Still, we were still able to explore the trendy Providencia neighborhood where we were staying, which includes South America's tallest building and largest shopping mall, as well as the Santiago Metropolitan Park, a lush mix of gardens, forest, and other public areas spread out across several hills that overlook the city. Santiago is a very modern city, with well-developed infrastructure and a booming economy. We both left Santiago saying, "We could definitely live here," and it will be a city we definitely return to.
