South America 2015 – Argentina, Chile, Easter Island, Colonia del Sacramento & São Paulo

Perito Moreno Glacier

This trip began simply enough – with the announcement in summer 2014 of a new nonstop flight from Houston to Santiago, Chile on United. We had talked about places in South America we wanted to go for years, but had never made it there. The new flight, with its wide-open frequent flyer award inventory, suddenly made planning a trip to Chile much easier. I booked the tickets as a surprise for Brian the first day they were available. Months later, as the trip approached, we began exploring the possibility of including Argentina in the itinerary. Fortunately, I was able to change our flights, allowing us to spend the first week of the trip in that country, along with a day each in São Paulo, Brazil and Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. Eventually our plans grew to a three week trip with stops in four countries, and including destinations like Buenos Aires, Los Glaciares National Park, Torres del Paine National Park, San Pedro de Atacama, Easter Island, and Valparaíso. Our first trip to South America left us wanting more, and feeling like we had barely started to explore this part of the world. We will definitely be back.
