Ollantaytambo
Ollantaytambo is often overlooked by travelers to Machu Picchu as nothing more than the place where you catch the train. However, the town is worthy of a visit in its own right. On the edge of town are towering ruins built into the side of a mountain, which are not only a challenging, but fun, climb, but they offer incredible views of the Sacred Valley and mountains. Within the town are some very good restaurants and shops. We also toured the farm at El Albergue, a hotel located adjacent to the train station, and enjoyed the outstanding Pachamanca lunch.
