Vieques
Vieques was the primary focus of this trip. Located off the main island of Puerto Rico, Vieques offers travelers a chance for quiet relaxation among stunning, undeveloped beaches, jungles, and mountains. Not pictured, due to the difficulty of photography and risk of losing a camera in the bay, is the nightime tour of the bioluminescent Mosquito Bay, which is highly recommended. Viques is an island that offers a variety of accomodations, from the luxe, modern amenities of a full-service resort or boutique hotel like the W and El Blok, to quaint guesthouses of a variety of service levels and prices. Esperanza, a small barrio on the island's Caribbean side, features a small strip of seaside bars and restaurants filled with both the locals and tourists, while the larger Isabella Segunda on the Atlantic side of the island provides essentials like a grocery store and pharmacy. With only one large resort, Vieques has retained much of its rustic, undiscovered charm, and offered us the perfect place to relax and forget about the rest of the world for a week.
