San Juan
San Juan was our first stop, for a quick overnight before continuing to Vieques. After a lunch of traditional Puerto Rican food in Old San Juan, and a nap to rejuvinate after a very early morning flight, we set out to explore some of Old San Juan. Founded in 1509, San Juan is one of the oldest European settlements in the Americas, and much of the historic quarter is still surrounded by the original city walls and fortifications buit by the Spanish prior to 1600. Much of Old San Juan is preserved as a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
