Santa Fe and Bandelier National Monument
In Santa Fe, we shopped, dined, relaxed at the spa, and explored the interactive art of Meow Wolf. As a result, you won't see many photos of the city itself here. Most of this collection is from Bandelier National Monument, located an hour's drive from Santa Fe, just outside the gates of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Bandelier protects and preserves the ruins of the Ancestral Puebloans. Deep inside a canyon, visitors will find the ruins of multi-story housing and cave dwellings dating to the period of 1150-1600 AD. An easy hike on well-developed trails (mostly paved) allows access from the visitor's center to some of the primary ruins; a longer, slightly more strenuous route allows access to the Alcove House, located higher in the cliff walls, and requiring the ascent of multiple ladders. Due to our late afternoon visit, we turned back to the visitor's center rather than continuing to the Alcove House on this visit.
