Courtyard area of our hotel in Chiang Mai, The Rachamankha. This hotel was beautiful – lots of antiques, lush landscaping, and amazing attention to the architectural details. Unfortunately, it just was not very comfortable. The bed was way too firm, the bathroom was functional but lacking in the type of luxury that is expected at a hotel of this price, and the service was polite, but not warm. Coming off our incredible five night stay at Jaya House River Park in Siem Reap just exacerbated our feeling that this was a hotel that should be better than what it was delivering. We did not have a horrible stay, but it did leave a lot to be desired.
Our final stop on the trip was a five night stay at a small island in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Phuket. Our villa was huge! Including the outdoor areas, it was larger than 3,000 square feet. This was the main room, featuring the bed, a couple of sitting areas, and minibar. Doors from this space led to the bathroom (which included a shower that doubled as a steam room), front and rear garden areas, private pool, patio, sala, and outdoor tub and shower.
