Bangkok
Bangkok was our first stop in Southeast Asia. A relatively young capital city (it was settled in the 15th century and re-founded as the capital in 1782), Thailand's largest city is a sprawling mass of over 8 million people. Popular attractions include its golden Buddhist temples, Grand Palace, infamous nightlife, bargain shopping, and food. And, oh, the food! You won’t see pictures of it here, but we were fortunate enough to dine at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, Nahm, Gaggan, and Suhring. The city never seems to go to sleep; even the more upscale areas during the daytime have sois, or side streets, that are filled with night markets, street food, bars, massage parlours, ping pong shows, boy shows, and more every night. One night in this city may mean the world is your oyster, but four nights here provide ample opportunity to take it all in, experiencing both the beauty and the grit of it all.
